john-wayne-statue-blogMore than 1,600 miles from Hollywood, California, in Winterset, Iowa, is the humble home of Clyde and Mary Morrison, who welcomed their first son Marion into their lives on May 26, 1907.

While the new parents surely had high hopes for baby Marion, they would never have imagined he would some day be an international movie hero, his name synonymous with the West. After 12 years of dedicated efforts, the 6,100 square-foot John Wayne Birthplace Museum will be opened in a ribbon cutting ceremony and keynote address by Wayne biographer Scott Eyman in Winterset at noon on May 23.

What a birthday gift to the Duke and all his fans the world over! You can still sign up for the big event at JohnWayneBirthplace.museum.
