In the Footsteps of Lewis and Clark, by Wallace G. Lewis, is not just another title in the flood of books about the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Instead, it is a survey of the celebrations of the 1804-06 exploration, from its centennial to the recent (2003-06) bicentennial. Lewis concludes his study with his main interest, the origin of the Lewis and Clark Trail established in 1978. Plus, the 34 pages, with illustrations, that he devotes to the “footsteps” of Lewis and Clark really make the tome a useful guidebook, in addition to being a good read.
