Top 10 Western Museums of 2011

6. Van of Enchantment Statewide (based in Santa Fe, New Mexico)

If people can’t make it to a museum, bring the museum to them. That’s pretty much the philosophy of this mobile museum, which started hitting the state’s 33 counties in 1997. “Riding the Rails” was the second of the van’s three-part series “The History of Travel in New Mexico,” providing a touchy-feely enterprise for children who could hold railroad spikes. This year, the van will bring Route 66 to people across the state. We like this idea a lot.
