What kind of gun did Pat Garrett use to kill Billy the Kid?

Billy Patscher Jr.

Clifton, New Jersey

Garrett used a 7.5-inch barreled, blued steel Colt Frontier Model single-action .44-40.

Although the Kid usually carried a Colt single action, at the time of his death, he was packing a .41 caliber, self-cocking Colt Thunderer. Historians still debate whether or not he had the gun with him when he was shot.
