Born and raised in Thermopolis, Wyoming, Merlin Heinze opened a commercial tannery, Merlin’s Hide Out, with his wife, Barb, in 1999. Two years earlier, he had gotten hooked on tanning after making his own beaver gators. Buffalo hair-on-hides are his specialty, but he also handcrafts fox, coyote and beaver pelts.
