Langford Peel and John Bull (in illustration, in a fake holdup of Mark Twain) ran con games throughout the West. The association ended on July 22, 1867 in Helena, MT.
Peel slapped Bull in the face in a saloon. The latter was unarmed—for the moment. He got his pistol and found Peel in the street, putting two bullets into his erstwhile partner. Peel collapsed; Bull put a coup de grace into his head at point blank range.
