Colorado Charlie Utter is best known as Wild Bill Hickok’s best friend, the man who led the wagon train that brought the gunfighter (and Calamity Jane) to Deadwood.  A few weeks later, Utter buried the gunfighter and reinterred the remains in 1879.

Utter then drifted across the West, mostly running saloons and dance halls.  Stories say he moved to Panama in 1888, where he served as a doctor and pharmacist among the Indians (not sure if he had any training).  It’s unclear when, where and how he died.
