hopalongJoining his fellow spur-bearing good guy, the Lone Ranger, Hopalong Cassidy may return to big screens in 2011.

Producer Mark Canton (300) seems to be the main force behind the revival of Clarence E. Mulford’s Western hero. But if he plans on taking Hoppy back to his rougher roots, the film may more closely resemble a revisionist Western than the familiar kid-friendly version starring William Boyd (left).

Hopalong and the Lone Ranger will also be honored in August with two commemorative postage stamps, as part of a larger series honoring “Early TV Memories.” Gary Cooper gets his own stamp later this year as well.
