Dwight Yoakam and Kris Kristofferson are two singers who have played complete bastards in any number of movies. So the prospect of the two of them playing bad guys in a new Western is exciting.
The Last Rites of Ransom Pride, set in 1910, is being described as a cross between Sam Peckinpah and Quentin Tarantino, which would also describe the movie Yoakam directed and acted in a few years ago, South of Heaven, West of Hell. The new movie is written by Country artist Ray Wylie Hubbard who penned “Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother,” made famous by Jerry Jeff Walker.
Although the movie takes place in the Texas/Mexican border, it’s being shot in Alberta, in the same area filmmakers shot The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
In Ransom Pride, Yoakam plays a creepy preacher and Kristofferson plays a creepy outlaw. Sounds like fun.
