Pinkertons WFM leaders

The Pinkertons had their own way of doing things.

The agency was trying to get three labor leaders (photo) to Idaho to face charges for allegedly ordering 1905 bomb assassination of former Idaho Governor Frank Steunenberg.  Colorado officials wouldn’t cooperate, so the Pinkertons kidnapped the men from Denver.

Agency officials then helped prepare the cases against the trio.

It did no good.  Western Federation of Miners Secretary-Treasurer William Haywood was acquitted, as was union member George Pettibone.  Charges were dropped against WFM President Charles Moyer.
