Dock Newton

The Newton Boys pulled off dozens of bank and train holdups in the nineteen-teens and ‘20s.  Apparently it was hard to break the habit.

March 5, 1968, Dock Newton (photo) and an accomplice tried a midnight burglary of the bank in Rowena, TX.  A guy across the street called the cops, who stopped the boys (and gave Dock a serious head injury when they clubbed him).  Newton spent eight months in a hospital before being released.  He was 77.

It’s believed that 79-year-old Willis Newton was driving the getaway car, but he escaped when the police showed up.
