Who’s big enough, fair enough and fast enough to handle the rowdy cowhands of Dodge City, Kansas, in the 1870s? Right now, for the Gunsmoke remake, CBS Films is thinking Brad Pitt or Ryan Reynolds. For my money, I see Reynolds as U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon, playing straight man to Pitt as Chester Goode and Mel Gibson as grumpy-but-lovable Doc Adams. As for Miss Kitty, that’s a tough one. But as long as we’re shooting high, let’s bring in Meryl Streep. She could probably put the whole bunch of them into Boot Hill.
