I’ve heard that Indians plundered the bodies of dead soldiers after the Little Bighorn battle. Then they stashed the items in caves in the Black Hills while on their way to Canada. Is there any evidence to support this rumor?

Stories about buried stash in the Black Hills have been floating around for years. I tend to put them in the same category as lost treasure stories—they’re always intriguing and may have some basis for fact.

I have never heard of any of the weapons, uniforms or trinkets from the battle being recovered. With the high-dollar value on such items, I would say if the plunder really existed, somebody would have recovered it by now. Same goes for the alleged Lost Dutchman’s gold cache in Arizona.
