I’m of the opinion that, even in today’s society, the women of the frontier are not given all of the credit that is their just due. Wilting violets, women of the frontier were not. They helped fight outlaws, Indians and natural disaster to protect themselves and their families. Melody Groves clearly shares this view and even expands on it in her novel, She Was Sheriff (Five Star Publishing, $25.95).
Maud Overstreet agrees to accept the job of Sheriff in Dry Creek, California. Along the way, she learns to shoot a gun, handle a horse and sack up a band of bank robbers. Well written, action packed, She Was Sheriff spins an entertaining yarn of the Old West.
