Duane King expertly recounts this tragic tale with historic maps, diaries, military accounts and oral traditions. What he does best, however, is lend a voice of context to the photographs provided by award-winning photographer David G. Fitzgerald.
The photos are astonishing, detailing the different trails as they cross many states toward their end in Oklahoma. This photo-essay gives the reader a feeling they are there. If a book can be a work of art, this is that book. —Linda Wommack
