lookofoldwestA mini encyclopedia of the Old West, this book is a great reading adventure as well as a handy tool. Just about anything you can imagine in the Old West is here, from military dress to Civil War weaponry.

Don’t know the difference between a Conestoga wagon and a prairie schooner? You’ll find the answer on pages 151-153. My favorite entry is the richly detailed history and mechanics of the windmill. The varieties of subjects are all told in the same expert detail, while the extraordinary illustrations darn near bring the frontier to life. This guide is a must for all Old West fans. —Linda Wommack
