Cole Younger Never Got The Lead Out

When the James-Younger Gang attempted to rob the First National Bank in
Northfield, Minnesota, on September 7, 1876, the outlaws ran into a hornet’s nest of local resistance. Everyone in the gang (believed to be eight) was hit by buckshot and bullets. Captured two weeks later, Cole Younger had no fewer than eight lead wounds and as many as 11—he gave different numbers to reporters. Younger died at age 72, in 1916, with 14 bullets still in his body—some from his days as a Confederate soldier and others from those valiant citizens.
