Johnny Depp and Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica will be collaborating once again on a picture, Wild Roses, Tender Roses, that is an adaptation of James Carlos Blake’s acclaimed 1996 novel The Friends of Pancho Villa. The pair worked together on the 1993, award-winning film Arizona Dream.
In Wild Roses, Tender Roses, Depp will play Villa. Salma Hayek is also circling the project. Kusturica, who is one of the most respected international filmmakers, says he expects Depp to learn Spanish for the role of the Mexican Revolutionary general.
Now if someone would only take a crack at putting Blake’s 1995 novel about John Wesley Hardin, The Pistoleer, on the big screen. How about Clint Eastwood?
