Frank Canton, a feared killer and lawman, got his comeuppance in the early 1900s. He was drunk at the saloon at the Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, WY. Canton encountered Will Foster, an old enemy from the Johnson County War days; at least twice, Canton had tried to assassinate Foster.
This time, the two had words and went for their guns. Foster was faster—but he didn’t shoot, instead pistol whipping Canton over and over again. Canton reportedly needed more than 60 stitches. He never bothered Will Foster again.
