Mining town Clifton, Arizona, took advantage of the local’s mining expertise and blasted a jail out of hard rock. Ironically, the man who ramrodded the blasting was the first prisoner (he celebrated the completion of the job a tad too much). Unfortunately, the jail was right next to the San Francisco River, and when it flooded, prisoners were found treading water near the ceiling.
