It looks as though the big screen Jonah Hex movie is finally getting off the ground with Josh Brolin playing Hex and John Malkovich as his adversary, a man named Turnbull, who is seeking revenge against Hex for the death of his son.
Hex, DC Comics’s only long-running Western character, is a hideously scarred Civil War vet and bounty hunter.
Along with Cowboys and Aliens, the Warner Brothers movie Jonah Hex is looking like the best budgeted Western we’ll be likely to see in the next couple of years. Most of that is due to the participation of scriptwriters Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the men who brought us Crank and Crank 2 (coming in April). Directing the picture is Jimmy Hayward, who comes from the world of animation, most recently the Dr. Seuss flick, Horton Hears a Who.
Script rumors suggest a supernatural element at play in the film, which would be consistent with Jonah Hex’s long and genuinely bizarre comic book history. He did, after all, spend most of his early years in the pages of Weird Western Tales. If all goes as planned, the Jonah Hex movie will start shooting in April.
