Fred Waite Lincoln County War
Fred Waite got out of the Lincoln County War alive—and managed to turn his life around. In 1878, Waite joined Billy the Kid and the Regulators.  He was involved in several gunfights and killings, including the assassination of Sheriff William Brady and a deputy. But when things got too hot, Waite went back home—to the Chickasaw Nation in present day Oklahoma.  There he became a lawman and successful politician, including senator, speaker of the tribal house of representatives, and more.
