In 1880, young Juan Oliveras of Tucson was caught in an amorous act with his mother-in-law by her husband who chased his son-in-law down and killed him. Oliveras was buried where he fell. Soon, local women came to the spot to pray that he be forgiven, and, over time it became a shrine for parents with flirtatious daughters, who lit candles and made a wish their daughters would remain chaste.
