Patrick Wayne was only 11 when he got to visit his father on a movie set for the first time. The film was “Rio Grande,” directed by John Ford, set in his favorite location in southern Utah.
John Wayne asked his son if he’d like to actually be in the movie; all the kid had to do was wear a uniform and put some water on. Patrick didn’t get a screen credit in his first film but he was paid $10. He would do eight more productions with his dad and seven more with John Ford.
