In the movie Tombstone, the Cowboys are identified by the red sashes they wear around their waists.  That never happened (although it made for a great story). Supposedly there was a Red Sash Gang in Wyoming, operating in the late 1880s and early ‘90s, stealing cattle, making false land claims, and killing folks as they fought the large cattle ranchers for control of the range.
