Two ranchers, Corydon Cooley and Marion Clark, decided the valley they lived in wasn’t big enough for the both of them. They played a card game to see who would stay and who would leave. On July 4, 1876, they sat down and played Seven Up, a popular game with the cowboys in which the lowest card won.
