Commodore Perry Owens had a problem keeping deputies when he was sheriff of Apache County, AZ in the late 1880s and of Navajo County, AZ in the mid ‘90s. He fired several. Others quit, complaining that the boss was hard to get along with and stuck them with his administrative tasks. His solution: he hired nephew Bob Hufford (photo) as a deputy in 1895.
